It set out to assess whether lessons from previous appointment activity are being fed into subsequent rounds and leading to improvements in the process and the system more widely.

2014 Applicant Research

This is our third applicant research study. It builds on the results received in previous surveys and the views of respondents have given us a wealth of useful information on their experience of applying for public appointments. The research is fully supported by the Scottish Government who have committed to considering the data provided to make improvements to the applicant experience. We are grateful to those who provided time and effort giving invaluable feedback which formed the basis of the findings.

These appointment rounds built successfully on the pilot round run for Lanarkshire NHS in 2014. This report summarises how learning from the initial pilot was taken forward to inform the approaches taken to attract and recruit people to two other health boards.

The selection panel used an alternative approach for initial applications and an additional assessment exercise was used at the interview stage to simulate an activity that board members would be engaged in if appointed.

This is a brief summary of an exercise that was used to assess applicants for a whole new board. It was considered to be very a good way of assessing the attributes that people would need to be effective. Candidates also commented positively on how robust they found the assessment process.
