Handbook on Application of the Revised Code

This handbook gives non statutory guidance on application of the revised code of practice. It has been published to coincide with the implementation date for the revised code. The handbook will be refreshed on a regular basis to reflect the Commissioner's most up to date guidance on application of the code. Revisions will take into account the views of those who work with the code and suggested revisions from stakeholders are welcomed. Handbook users should refer to the online version of the handbook as it may be more up-to-date than any printed version. The handbook version date is provided on the contents page for ease of reference.

Statutory Guidance on the revised code of practice - the Commissioner's scrutiny

This guidance has been published to coincide with the implementation of the revised code of practice in September 2011. It explains how the Commissioner will provide scrutiny of the ministerial public appointments process. The guidance has statutory force.

This framework should be read in conjunction with the Commissioner's statutory guidance on providing scrutiny under the revised code. The framework shows how the risk rating for each appointment round is calculated. The level of scrutiny provided by the Commissioner is directly related to the risk rating thus ensuring that scrutiny levels are appropriate.

Revised Code of Practice for Ministerial Appointments to Public Bodies in Scotland

This revised code is the result of significant consultation with stakeholders. The Commissioner believes that implementation of the revised code will see a marked change for the better in the public appointments process in Scotland. It will be implemented from September 2011.
